#MiniReviews: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Vol. 1 & 2

 Mini Reviews

Hey Bookworms!

Today I am bringing you two mini reviews of some of the books I’ve recently read.

Sailor Moon Vol.1Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Vol. 1 by Naoko Takeuchi
Published by Kodansha International  on September 13th 2011
Genres: Manga, Magical Girl
Pages: 242
Format: Paperback

Sailor Moon Vol. 1 by Naoko Takeuchi, for those who haven’t been living on the planet since the ‘90s is a classic manga about a girl who fights for love and justice against the dark kingdom to save her kingdom on the moon.

Phew~ That was a mouthful.

Volume one sets up the characters and the plot of the manga. The little boy in me was beaming with nostalgia and such happy memories from my childhood. This was my first time reading the manga and I only had the anime to compare it too. I’m so happy that they aren’t carbon copies of each other. The manga is fast paced and the whole first season of the anime is pretty much covered.

Sailor Moon and he scouts are still the same girls I remember from the show. Their personalities and their choices are the same. I love the helplessness but strong leadership of Usagi, the intelligence of Ami, the fierceness of Rei, the strength of Makoto, and the grace of Minako.

Sailor Moon Vol. 2Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Vol. 2 by Naoko Takeuchi
Published by Kodansha Comics on November 15th 2011
Genres: Manga, Magical Girl
Pages: 235
Format: Paperback

Sailor Moon Vol. 2 continues right from the ending of volume 1. The dark kingdom is relentless in their search for the silver crystal and energy to resurrect the dark queen. Not only that, but they’ve taken a hold of Tuxedo Mask’s mind and are using him against Sailor Moon!

How rude.

The love Usagi has for Chiba is so swoon worthy. Even as a kid I knew I wanted a love like theirs. It brings me to tears just thinking they might not be together (even though I know how it ends HA).

I know the third volume is going to be explosive with the finale of the first story arc. I want the scouts to bust out and use their powers to dominate. I feel like that’s the one big difference from the anime. In the manga they don’t seem so cool and powerful, but in the anime they kick-ass and unapologetic about it. I just hope they get explored more!

I highly recommend if you are a huge fan of Sailor Moon like I am, to read the original manga. You won’t regret it.

Have you read the Sailor Moon manga? Who’s your favorite scout/senshi?

Let me know in the comments!

Until next time,

  1. I haven’t read the manga yet *gasp* neither watched the anime as a kid *double gasp*. As my bestie would say, I probably didn’t have a childhood :’D ahahaha! but I will give it a try in the future 😉

  2. I have been really getting into graphic novels lately and saw volume 2 of SM on the shelve at my library but didn’t see v1. Will definitely need to request the first so I can relive the amazingness of the SM universe! I grew up with Sailor Moon too so I felt super nostalgic reading your post!
