About the Author
Tara Sim is a YA author found in the wilds of the Bay Area, California. When she’s not writing about magic, clocks, and boys, she drinks tea, wrangles cats, and sings opera.
Tara grew up in California, but braved the elements of Virginia to study English/Creative Writing at Hollins University.
Half-Indian and full geek, she eats too many samosas and awkwardly dances to Bhangra music.
Chainbreaker by Tara Sim is the sequel in the Timekeeper series about clock mechanics, gods of time, and clock spirits. Now if that doesn’t make you want to pick this series up then let me go into more detail to pique your interest a little more.
Chainbreaker picks up a year after the events of the first book, Timekeeper. Reeling after the clock tower attacks, things are starting to get back to normal for Danny. But things aren’t always what they seem. Danny is being watched. By whom? He doesn’t know. So when there are clock towers being destroyed in India, but time still moving, Danny and Daphne are called in to investigate. Set out on adventure, Chainbreaker takes you on an unforgettable journey through time.
There are a lot of highlights in Chainbreaker that I want to talk about. So let’s start with the romance. A romance done so well it hurts. The first part of the book is a solidification of the romance that was set up in Timekeeper. Danny and Colton have to be the two most adorable boys on the face of the planet. Seriously. Their romance is so swoon worthy that my heart ached from cuteness overload. Seriously. You can tell Sim took her time building up their romance, making their feelings come across so genuine on the page.
Another big highlight for me was the change of scenery. From England to India. As far as I know, the author is half Indian, so it was nice to see her bring forth her own culture for readers to enjoy. Not only does she nail the descriptions, scenery, food and culture, but she also breathes life into her setting.
Finally, what sets Chainbreaker apart from other YA fantasies being published right now is the concept of clock towers and time gods. I was so enamored by the plot and storytelling. Sim does a fantastic job drawing in the reader and piquing their curiosity little by little. I’m curious to see where the third book will go and to see the mythology explored further.
