Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice.

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone…except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

Review

Renegades by Marissa Meyer is the first book in her new sci-fi super hero series. In world that has been ravaged by villain groups, one group of heroes rose from the ashes and took out the leader of the Anarchy. Now many years later, the niece of the leader of the villains is ready to take her revenge. The only way to make this possible is to join the ranks of the Renegades; the heroes she is trying to take down.

I had a good time reading this one. I think by far this was my favorite Meyer book. While reading Renegades I was getting major X-Men vibes and I loved it.

The world that Meyer crafted was well done. Sort of like a post apocalyptic/dystopian where villains and heroes are ruling everything. I also thought the powers that Meyer chose for her super-humans were pretty unique and different from what I’ve read or seen before which is a plus!

The plot was also pretty well done. For a long book, the plot needs to be seamless and cohesive. Renegades does just that. There is tons of action sequences, good character interactions and world exploration. I can’t wait for more of it in the sequel.

My one wish is for Nova. She was supposed to be our anti-hero of the story, but sadly she wasn’t that great or riveting. For a good anti-hero, he/she needs to be villainess but still have readers rooting for him/her. For Nova, that didn’t happen for me. I need more ruthlessness from her in the sequel for her to actual be called an anti-hero.

I highly recommend Renegades by to everyone. If you like superheroes, especially X-Men type heroes, then you’ll love this one!

Until next time,
