Two o’clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time—and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It’s a truth that seventeen-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork, but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors.

And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems. Danny’s new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: he is the tower’s clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield’s time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling
in love with a clock spirit is forbidden, and means risking everything he’s fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target or he’ll not only lose his father, but the boy he loves, forever.

The stunning first novel in a new trilogy by debut author Tara Sim, Timekeeper is perfect for fans ofCassandra Clare and Victoria Schwab.

The Review

Timekeeper by Tara Sim is the first book in a new historical fantasy series about time and clock spirits. In this world clock towers control time, when one malfunctions or breaks down, time in it’s vicinity stops. People and life itself freezes. It is Danny, our main protagonist and master clock mechanic to repair the clock towers before they stop all together. Danny’s father wasn’t fast enough and now he is lost to time in a town that no longer moves. With a cool premise, tantalizing characters and political strife makes Timekeeper a must read for all book lovers.

There is nothing like Timekeeper out there right now (at least to my knowledge), and I really enjoyed how refreshing it was.

The characters are now my precious babies. Not only does Timekeeper feature gay characters and relationships, but there characters that have troubles mentally. Danny our MC is such a sweety. I just want to pick him up and put him in my pocket. He is deeply troubled ever since the accident that took away his father, but over the course of the story we see him open up and let other’s share his emotions. I also loved how curious he was. If things didn’t make sense or didn’t add up, Danny was there to find the answers.

I also like the side characters, Colton and Cassie. Colton was quiet and inquisitive. You can tell he has a wise soul, but also is still new to reacting to human’s emotions and feelings. Cassie was feisty as hell. She was strong, independent and a car mechanic. She was just the coolest.

Sim portrayed a gay relationship with well. She didn’t revolve the story around it, and the characters involved weren’t obsessed with the notions. I will say that it was a bit weird to read how accepted it was for the time period that Timekeeper takes place, but hey, creative licence and all.

I feel like the setting and the world building could have been described in more details. It doesn’t take place in real world history, but it lacked some shine in that department. I would have like more of a dazzling atmosphere. But Timekeeper has so much potential and I can’t wait for what the next installment has in stuff for us!

Timekeeper has a bit of everything for everyone and I highly recommend picking this one up!

Pub Date Banner-1Danny carefully penciled in the tiny nuances of Colton’s face, the way his hair fell in a clockwise whorl, the small shadow of his nose against his cheek. Colton’s gaze never strayed from his own.

Danny tried to capture those eyes, innocent and old and warm, but couldn’t quite manage it. He struggled to find the source behind what made those eyes so special.
It’s the way he looks at me, he realized. Like nothing the world had to offer could
compare to what sat before him in that moment.
