Benefits to Love Triangles

Hey guys!

Welcome to Discussions at Dawn. This is where I will talk about hot button issues, book related topics, and other things I find interesting.

Benefits to Love Triangles

I am probably in the minority here when I say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, love triangles. Yes, you heard that right folks, I get enjoyment and bliss from love triangles. Give me the classic Bella/Edward/Jacob or Katniss/Gale/Peeta; I am all for these types of pairings!

The love triangle trope is wildly hated in the YA book community I find, but I like being against the grain. It makes me feel unique. HA. If you are like me, then you are going to enjoy my reasoning’s. If you despise love triangles, you can still read on… maybe enjoy the GIFs I chose?

Drama for you Mama

You can’t sit there and tell me you don’t like fictional drama. I mean that is the whole reason reality TV was invented for. Pure enjoyment when others are having drama. That could be an argument, or a fight (I don’t condone real violence y’all, I swear). There is nothing more amusing then when your MC is in the middle of a love triangle drama.

There is always the good boy and the bad boy… sometimes good girl, bad girl (but those are rare). So naturally one will be there to cause strife and drama between the first couple. They will wedge their way in and lay claim to what they want. They can’t leave well enough alone, no sir!

Stronger than Normal Feels

Don’t tell me that this hasn’t happened to you while reading before. You are jumping on the first couples love train in the first book, but then surprise, the second book comes and there is a new love interest!

NO, DON’T YOU DARE COME NEAR MY OTP. GET BACK!

You get possessive and your feels get smacked with stronger emotions. Your love for you ship grows larger. You will go to the ends of the earth to make sure that other ship doesn’t sail. (Sometimes you don’t get your way, sorry, but that’s what fan fiction is for).

MORE ROMANCE

Come on ya’ll. More love interests mean more opportunities for more romance. Who doesn’t like a good contemporary or even a fantasy with more romance in it? If everything were sunshine and rainbows things could get a little stale after a while. So bring me a new love interest so I can get a fresh dose of more romance.

That’s not a bad thing right? I don’t think so.

YAY! MORE ROMANCE FOR ME.

Tough Choices

OMG. Where do all these boys (girls) keep coming from? I really liked the first ship… but now this new guy (girl) just showed up and they are shiny and new. MC… go do your thing and get tantalized into a love triangle (because those are totally normal real like things that happen).

So many choices, how will I ever settle on an end game ship? Author, friend, why have you done this to me?!?!?!

So yeah, those are totally legit reasons why love triangles are beneficial in fiction. Don’t you agree?

Still no…

Well, you’re boring then. (Just kidding, don’t leave me, I love you.)

Until next time,

Jesse Nicholas Sig

  1. I feel meh about love triangles, I don’t particularly hate them but I don’t love them either. Some of your points are valid though but above all it is a matter of excecution for me. if it is excellently done I am all for it…
What are some of your favorite love triangles? I am kind of in the mood for a good one. 😀

  2. Those are all good points! I think the reason that I don’t like love triangles is because I don’t think they’re well written. Like, Katniss is in the middle of a revolution. Edward/Bella/Jacob sort of made sense at first but Jacob was never going to win and then he ends up with her daughter….weird.

I just thought of all of the love triangles that I don’t approve of and it’s even more than I thought lol. I’l probably write about it eventually so thank you for the inspiration lol

  3. It’s probably because I dislike romance for starters, but I can’t stand love triangles most of the times. They seemed forced into the plots and tend to ruin the book for me because the other parts of the novel get pushed out of the limelight, you know? But you enjoy romance, so I can see why you love them!
