Dashing Through the Snow | TAG

Dashing-Through-the-Snow-Book-Tag

Hey guys!

Dashing Through the Snow Tag was created by Astra @ A Strangers Guide To Novels. And I was tagged by quite a few people, so bare with me! Thank you Kat from The Impossible Girl Blog, Deanna from A Novel Glimpse, Joey from Thoughts and Afterthoughts, Trisha Ann from The Bookgasm Blog, and Lois from My Midnight Musing.

Name a book you’d like to see under your Christmas tree?

I’ve asked for quite a number of books this Christmas, so any of the ones above would be lovely to have under my Christmas this year!

A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas season?

Frozen Tides and Why Not Me? will be my Christmas reads this year, as I have already started both of them!

Favorite Christmas movie?

Two of the best Christmas/holiday movies ever made!

Do you like snow?

I love snow! It’s an amazing sight to behold. Especially when you wake up in the morning and see a vast expanse of white fields and streets of untouched snow from the overnight fall.

It may be tough to get through, but it sets the mood for cozy nights in watching movies and cuddling with tea and blankets!

Name a character you would like to spend Christmas day with?

It comes as no surprise who I am going to choose. He may not be the warmest character in the world, but I know deep down he has a romantic bone in his body. It’s none other then Magnus Damora from Falling Kingdoms!

Prince Magnus

To give or to receive?

I know most people say giving is better then receiving, and I agree with that 100%, but I like to receive just as much.

I never usually tell people what I want for Christmas. This frustrates them to no end, but I like thoughtful gifts. If you know me, then you’ll know what I will enjoy.

What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

hogwarts-christmas

Hogwarts/Hogsmeade! How perfect would that Christmas be? I mean come on. Nothing screams Christmas more then Harry Potter!!

Fondest Christmas memory?

Every year I try to make fond memories during Christmas! But I guess my fondest memory would have to be the last Christmas that was just me, my parents, and my sister. The last Christmas we had as just the four of us before my sister married and had kids.

I miss the good ol’ days where I would wake everyone up to open presents at 6 in the morning!

Can you say “Christmas tree” ten times fast in a row (while pronouncing them correctly)?

Yes. It’s not that hard.

Thanks for stopping by to this great holiday themed tag! Hope you enjoyed my answers as well.

Until next time,

Sig 4

Day 3: Your Favorite Christmas Recipe/Food

Shortbread cookies would have to be my favorite Christmas time cookie recipe. My grandma makes the best ones ever, but since I can’t get her to tell me her recipe, I went to the handy dandy google for some help!

Shortbread3949-thumb-596x350-181906

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups (3 sticks or 12 oz or 340 g) salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (4.41 oz or 125 g) confectioners sugar (icing sugar or powdered sugar)
  • 3 cups (13.23 oz or 375 g) all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F degrees.
  2. Blend butter until smooth in a large bowl using an electric mixer set at medium speed. Slowly blend in the icing sugar. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and combine thoroughly. Add flour and mix at low speed until well blended.
  3. Pat dough into an ungreased cookie sheet. Alternatively you can roll out the dough so that it’s about ¼ of an inch in thickness and cut them to your desired shape. I placed parchment paper on my cookie sheet, but it’s not necessary.
  4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until just done (slightly golden in color). Do not let it get brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with colored sugar or other sprinkles if desired. Cut into squares if you haven’t pre-cut them and place cookie sheet on wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and enjoy!

It’s that simple guys! If you want to check out more recipes like this one, go check out the website I got it HERE.

Day 4: Share a Christmas Story or Write One of Your Own

So I thought I would tell you guys a little Christmas joke as my story. I heard it from my uncle one year at Christmas dinner. It’s a bit lame, so if you don’t laugh I get it! But I got a good chuckle out it, seeing is his wife is a lawyer! Anyways here it is:

Just before Xmas, an honest politician, a generous lawyer and Santa Claus all got into the elevator at the Ritz Hotel in New York. As the elevator traveled from the 5th floor down to the ground level, one-by-one they noticed a $50 note lying on the elevator’s floor.

Which one picked up the £50 note, and handed it in at reception?

Santa of course, the other two don’t actually exist!

Let me know what some of your favorite recipes or treats to eat at Christmas time are! See ya tomorrow for Day 5!

Until next time,

Sig 4

Books to Read by the Fire | Top 5 Wednesday [18]

NEW-TOP-5-WEDNESDAY

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5W … you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Books to Read by the Fire.

I am not the biggest holiday book reader when it comes to novels. But I do have the fondest memories of children’s Christmas books. So this week I will be showing you which ones are my favorite from my childhood. I hope you enjoy!

5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

113946

This has to be a classic in many people’s childhoods.

4. The Smallest Gift of Christmas by Peter H. Reynolds

17262292

This one is not from my childhood, but I got the opportunity to read it to my niece and nephew a year back and absolutely loved it. And so did they!

3. Harold and the North Pole by Crockett Johnson

98577

I love all of Harold’s adventures with his purple crayon, so his trip to the North Pole is no surprise!

2. A Charlie Brown Christmas by Charles M. Schulz

18893599

Probably one of the saddest but cutest Christmas stories out there! Who doesn’t love poor Charlie Brown?

1. The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

21944664

I love the book, I love the movie. Plus my dad works for the Canadian National Railroad, so it made this one that much more special for me!

I hope you enjoyed my Top 5 Wednesday this week. So grab one of these books, curl up by the fire (if you have one of course), with some tea and a blanket. I love enjoying the nostalgic feelings I get when reading these!

Until next time,

Sig New

Day 2: Favorite Christmas Traditions New or Old

Growing up in a Portuguese/Canadian household means you have a gigantic family. So Christmas gets split into two days. On Christmas Eve we gather at my Vavo’s house (Portuguese grandma). My Portguese family is huge and still growing as now all the cousins are getting married and having kids. Here’s a little insight to how big it is.

My Vavo has 6 children. Each child is married, so that’s twelve aunts and uncles. Now 5 sets of those aunts and uncles have 2 children each. That is 10 core cousins (including me and my sister). I’m not done yet. Out of those 10 core cousins 6 of them are now married enlarging the core cousins to 16! Among the married cousins there are 11 kids. So imagine 40+ people in my grandma’s tiny house having dinner, playing games, opening presents, and talking over each other. It’s quite a loud and long night!

When we get home we have a tradition where we each get to open one present before bed. Then we sleep, Santa comes, my parents are usually the first to wake up, then myself. (My sister no longer lives with us, but if she did she would be the last to wake up). We start with our stockings, and then move to the tree. Once all the gifts are opened, my dad makes the traditional Christmas morning breakfast. This includes eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, pancakes, and waffles!

Now on Christmas Day we head over to my other grandparent’s house (Canadian side). Here there is not as many people thankfully. But oh boy do I love all the baked treats my grandma and aunt make. We have dinner, play games, and drink till we’re merry!

Unfortunately when the night ends, so does my happiness because it’s back to work on the 26th! The biggest sale day in Canada (Boxing Day). It’s even bigger then Black Friday here!

So if you have stuck through that whole story then I applaud you! There are many other traditions that occur over the month of December that I love, but Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are my favorite of them all!

Let me know what some of your favorite traditions during Christmas are! See ya tomorrow for Day 3!

Until next time,
