I want to start by thanking the two awesome book bloggers, Aimal from Bookshelves & Paperbacks, and Jenna from Reading with Jenna who tagged last week. They are awesome and need to be checked out, so please do so now. Also, this was originally a YouTube tag and it was created by Chami @ ReadLikeWildFire. She’s pretty damn crazy and hilarious, so go subscribe to her channel!
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED TO HAVE A SEQUEL/SEQUELS:
So let me clarify before moving on to the reason why. I know this is not a direct sequel to The DUFF, but it is set in the same world and we see the two main characters make appearances in the books. So now the reason this book didn’t need a sequel was because it sucked. The DUFF was humorous, flirty and fun, but Lying Out Loud was just a mess. A book that didn’t need to be written whatsoever.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE POINT OF VIEW:
I need to make another clarification. I love multiple POV’s and I’m all for it if it is written well. So when it comes to Throne of Glass I do believe it needs the multiple POV’s to get the full story across to the reader but I hate how the POV’s were written. In my opinion I like when each POV has it’s own chapter, but in the Throne of Glass series Sarah J. Maas sometimes puts more than one POV in a chapter. It’s more of a personal problem, but it just irritates me.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED TO CHANGE COVER ART THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE SERIES:
So I don’t hate the new covers, I actually really like them a lot. But I just don’t get why they decided to change the covers so late in the game. The series is over and the other covers sold well to the readers. It isn’t some special milestone year like a tenth anniversary, the only new aspect is the TV show which is going to be airing early next year. And to be honest that doesn’t really warrant cover changes in my opinion. Will I buy these covers? Probably. Are they necessary? Nope.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED A LOVE TRIANGLE:
Let me tell you how pointless the love triangle in this series was. June x Day, and June x Anden. I’m not some raging fan boy but the June/Anden love story was just a snorefest and was utterly unnecessary. It was rather rushed at the end of the series don’t ya think? Am I the only one that feels this way? Don’t get me wrong, I liked Anden a lot. Probably more than Day actually… but the love triangle was pointless.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED THIS BOOK TO BE INCLUDED IN THE SERIES:
This book… do I need to even explain myself? It’s pretty big for a boring storyline. I mean Bella spends most of the time moping around all because the sexy vampire left her and now she has to date the less then sexy werewolf. Can I just say how unnecessary that whole plotline is? We all know she is going to end up with the vampire in the end. Sorry Jacob, there was no competition there.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED A CLIFFHANGER:
The ending to this book was so ambiguous it hurt my soul. I mean the whole book was confusing as hell at first but then the ending came and you’re left with many unanswered questions. We pretty much have to make up our own endings to the story ourselves. If you’ve read the book or seen the movie, then you know what I’m talking about.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED TO HAVE JUST ONE POINT OF VIEW:
Can I tell you how much more of masterpiece this series would have been if we got multiple POV’s? Imagine getting Dumbledore’s POV, or Voldemort’s POV? Maybe even Hermoine or Ron’s POV when they weren’t with Harry. How cool would it have been to know what Hermoine was thinking and feeling when she got petrified by the Basilisk? That would have been one of the many cool POV’s I wish we could have had.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED THAT MUCH HYPE:
This book and it’s hype was ridiculous. It was everywhere on the book blogosphere and BookTube. Posters, ads, blurbs everything imaginable. And for what? It was just a good book. That’s all. Nothing spectacular or innovative. It definitely won’t be the next Harry Potter or Twilight. Sorry Red Queen… but the hype probably ruined your lack luster content. I feel without the hype and just the word of mouth from the readers, people’s perspectives might have changed.
TOTALLY DIDN’T… NEED A RELATIVE BOOK REFERENCE:
This book can comfortably stand on its own without the relative book references to Game of Thrones. In my opinion there really isn’t that much similarities to the two books at all. If anything Falling Kingdoms surpasses anything Game of Thrones can do. But that may be my inner fan boy. No but seriously… so much better! No comparisons.
