Quote for Day 3

“White shouldn’t be the default any more that straight should be the default. There shouldn’t even be a default.”

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda – Becky Albertalli

Over the last couple years diversity in books as very much improved. But it’s still unfortunate that a lot of different types of media are still promoting majority white casts. Why can’t a main character be black, or asian, or hispanic? Why can’t a main character be lesbian, or gay, or transgender? When you’re born you are taught that a boy should love a girl and vice versa, thus creating the default. Why should the LGBTQ community have to come out at all? If that’s the case then straight people should have to come out as well. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the world still needs to change and this is just one more obstacle for us to overcome.

Well there you have it, my last quote of the challenge. I hope you enjoyed and leave a comment if you connect with this quote.

I TAG YOU!

Quote for Day 2

“Being punished doesn’t mean you should miss out on being LOVED.”

The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley – Shaun David Hutchinson

No matter the hardships that push you down in life, always know that there is always someone out there that loves you. When I came out in high school, I thought the world would collapse on me. I was punishing myself for not having control over what I was. It wasn’t until I realized that my family still loved and supported me, that I stopped punishing myself and started embracing who I really was. So the next time you think you want to go down and tap out of your life, remember the people that love and care for you.

Well there you have it, my second quote of the challenge. I hope you enjoyed and leave a comment if you connect with this quote.

Favorite Character Tropes | Top 5 Wednesday [#4]

Top5Wednesday

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5WFAMILY you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Character Tropes.

*a character trope are things you see often in books, maybe sometimes they get redundant or are overused (especially in ya) but you can’t help but love them.

The list is absolutely endless for this topic. So let’s begin!

5. The Conqueror

A true Conqueror strives to claim the whole of the known world through military means, and often succeeds.

Falling Kingdoms Throne of Glass Cinder

King Gaius – Falling Kingdoms

King of Adarlan – Throne of Glass

Queen Levana – Lunar Chronicles

4. Princely Young Man

The Princely Young Man being a young male of elite status, either by wealth, social position or sheer force of personality and popularity. Usually he is rich and his parents have a very high place in society, possibly in the form of a government job or ownership of an important company or corporation, which he might be expected to inherit.

The DUFF  Chamber of SecretsA Book of Spirits and Thieves

Wesley Rush – The DUFF

Draco Malfoy – Harry Potter

Farrell Grayson – A Book of Spirits and Thieves

3. Dumb Muscle

The tendency for strength and intellect to be inversely proportional. The Big Guy and The Brute are usually slightly dim at the very least.

Red Rising Storm Siren Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Titus/Pax – Red Rising

Colin – Storm Siren

Rubeus Hagrid – Harry Potter

2. Badass Princess

With all the luxury afforded to a princess and all the knights dedicated to her protection, who would have thought the most dangerous person in the castle is the princess herself? Instead of knitting or gossiping, this princess has developed powers or abilities that make her more like a cactus than a delicate flower.

The Orphan Queen The Kiss of Deception Frozen Tides

Princess Wilhelmina – The Orphan Queen (I consider her a princess until she claims her throne)

Princess Lia – The Remnant Chronicles

Princess Lucia – Falling Kingdoms

1. Love Triangles

A is in love with B, but B is in love with C, while C is in love with A. Well, that’s one of them. A Love Triangle commonly involves three people, love, and decisions. It can be dramatic, or it can result in Wacky Hijinx. Sometimes a fourth person is brought in to make it right, sometimes somebody might be kicked out.

Splintered The Young Elites Legend

Alyssa + Jeb + Morpheus – Splintered

Adelina + Enzo + Raffaele – The Young Elites

June + Day + Anden – Legend

Well there you have it! I hope you enjoyed my Top 5 Wednesday this week. I really need to have books about these characters. Maybe I should write them?

Characters Who Are Booknerds | Top 10 Tuesday [4]

Top10Tuesday

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday weekly fun on my blog! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. If you want to join in the fun, hop on over to their blog to see what it’s all about!

This week’s topic is Characters Who Are Booknerds. I wasn’t always a big booknerd like I am now. I only really got into reading books avidly last year. Before then I would just read a book whenever I went on vacation, or only on the weekends, only amounting to a few books a year. But since being introduced to the Book Blogging/Booktuber community, you can never find me without a book. If I don’t have a physical book with me, I have my tablet with my e-books on it. I always thought being a booknerd was lame, but now I can’t get enough books.

So without further ado, here is my list:

10. Park from Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor and ParkIf you’ve read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, then you know how big of a comic book/graphic novel nerd Park is. There are all types of different booknerds, and as a avid comic book reader myself, I do believe it belongs in this topic!

9. Julian from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red QueenEven though Julian is a side character, he plays a big part in Mare’s time becoming a silver. He is the only one that truly appreciates books and book learning in the story. While everyone is all about their powers and strengths, he relies on information and education!

8. Hazel from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

11870085For obvious reasons I have included Hazel in this list because if you’ve read The Fault in Our Stars then you know her favorite book plays a huge part in the storyline. Without it, we miss out on so many good scenes from the story.

7. Spencer or Aria from Pretty Little Liars by Sara Sheperd

Pretty Little LiarsIt’s been a really long time since the last time I read this book, but I’m pretty sure Spencer was the academic book nerd, or was it Aria? Maybe Spencer was the academic know it all and Aria was the actually booknerd who just truly loves reading? Correct me if I’m wrong!

6. Alexia from Soulless by Gail Carriger

SoullessIt’s stated many times in the book that Alexia finds the most comfort when she is in the library. She also happens to be a very well read Lady in her era where many of the women are solely focused on getting married and fashion trends.

5. Hermoine from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's StoneDo I even have to explain this one? Anyone who is anyone on this planet knows how much of a bookworm Hermoine is. Whether you’ve read the series or watched the movies you know this. Always getting good grades, lecturing Harry and Ron about school habits, and always the first to suggest doing research in the library’s restricted section!

4. Prince Dorian from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Crown of MidnightThis one and the next one go hand in hand together. Prince Dorian has numerous books in his possession, even lending Celaena some from his personal collection. It’s one of the biggest common interest that both of them have together.

3. Celaena from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Throne of GlassLike I said above Celaena also makes the list. Her love for books is widely expressed in the story as well as her love for smutty romance novels. She is a night reader like myself. Always reading well into the night right before passing out!

2. Andrew from The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson

The Five Stages of Andrew BrawleyNot only is he creating his own graphic novel in the confines of his little storage closet he calls a home, but he is also caught reading some classic literature to Rusty on his hospital bed. It was a very touching element to have them bond over after such a tragedy.

1. Becca from A Book of Spirits and Thieves

A Book of Spirits and ThievesProbably the biggest book nerd on the list! Her mom owns a cool book shop in downtown Toronto, where she spends most of her time with her face in a book or working. She even gets sucked into a book that brings her to an alternated world! Now if only that could happen to me. For real. This needs to happen now.

Well there you have it. The Top 10 Characters Who Are Booknerds. Let me know what you guys think of my list and share with me which books you’ve read that have booknerd characters in them!!

Until next time,
